I am extremely disappointed with the way I was treated at the 5352 N. Garland Avenue branch. I came in with three FSA refund checks—one in my married name and two in my maiden name. I brought every piece of documentation needed to verify both names: my driver’s license, Social Security card, marriage certificate, birth certificate, and bank card.
The branch manager, Joyce Rhines, refused to even look at my documentation. She dismissed me before reviewing anything and immediately told me the checks could not be deposited. She would not take the checks from my hand or verify my identity, even though that is the proper procedure. Her actions made me feel judged, singled out, and unfairly treated—especially considering how simple the process should have been.
The teller, Gabby, politely explained how to endorse my checks correctly but still refused to deposit them, telling me she didn’t want it to “come back on her.” This left me feeling like I was being accused of doing something wrong, even though I had provided all legal documents proving my identity and name change.
After leaving frustrated and embarrassed, I went to a different branch the same day. They deposited the check in my maiden name instantly, with no issues at all, and didn’t even ask for the documents that Joyce refused to look at. The inconsistency between branches shows that the first location did not follow proper procedure.
I escalated the situation to the executive office, but the response I received from Jacob Krall made things even worse. My complaint was summarized incorrectly, the type of checks was listed wrong, and the investigation completely ignored the fact that Joyce refused to review my documentation. They insisted the staff acted properly, closed the case, and refused to take any corrective action.
Based on this entire experience, I strongly do not recommend the 5352 N. Garland Avenue branch. I left feeling dismissed, mistreated, and not taken seriously. If you expect fair treatment, professionalism, and proper handling of your documents, I recommend using a different branch entirely.
