At Truist, our purpose is to inspire and build better lives and communities. That happens through real care to make things better. To meet client needs, to empower teammates, and to lift up communities.
I recently visited Truist Bank to cash a check. Although I am not an account holder, I was advised by the issuer to go to Truist (formerly SunTrust) because that is the distributors bank. I presented all the necessary identification as I have in the past.
This time, however, I was asked for my “tax ID number" from Fabian.
I questioned why that terminology was being used, because if what was really required was my Social Security number, it would be clearer and more accurate to state that. “Tax ID” is a broad term that can refer to a Social Security Number (SSN), an Employer Identification Number (EIN), or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)- business owners know this but others may not and intentionally or carelessly using the wrong term can mislead customers and even expose their sensitive personal data.
Instead of acknowledging this distinction, the banker responded with sarcasm, as though I did not understand the difference between a tax ID and a Social Security number. Eventually, he gave a slight nod in agreement, but the initial attitude was dismissive and noticeably defensive.
It was an awkward and unnecessary encounter. Clear communication and respectful customer service go a long way, and this could have been handled with professionalism and courtesy rather than sarcasm.

I wanted to open a bank account at the Arlington branch I wish if there was a 0 star rating because 1 star is too much for this bank, I went there 3 times trying to open an account and every time I get rejected because there busy the worst bank and the worst customer service I’m glad I didn’t open an account with this bank…

This branch is entirely too slow. Zero reason to have to wait almost an hour for one transaction!!! If you don’t have time to waste then consider going to another location.

Arma is the most childish, rude and idiotic bank teller in that bank.
