This bank has been nothing but a mess since merging with BBT. I've had so many issues over the years (i.e. overdraft fees for things that hadn't even processed yet when I had literally already moved money to cover it, harassing me about credit cards in the drive through, etc.), but what they did to my husband recently is on a new level.
My husband's bank does not have a local branch and we were given some cash that we needed to pay a bill electronically. He obviously had no way to deposit it into his account and I work the exact hours that this bank is open, so I had no way to do it either. He decided to go see if he could just deposit it into my account for me and they told him no because it looked like money laundering or whatever. He was advised IN PERSON by one of the employees here to just open an account here, deposit the cash into his new account, and Zelle it to me. He was told to do this and that it would be fine by an EMPLOYEE IN PERSON. So he gets the account set up, deposits the cash, the employee walks him through setting up Zelle and sending me the money, and he even left some money in the account to keep it open and set up direct deposit with his 2nd job because he fully intended to keep and use this account since he doesn't have a local bank. Everything was good to go.
A week later, he receives a cute little letter from Truist telling him that they were closing his account due to "suspicious activity" and that they would be sending him a check for his remaining money that would take weeks to arrive. The letter stated that he would have 15 days to contact the fraud department and appeal before the account closed, but the account was ALREADY CLOSED only 6 days after opening it. He did contact the fraud department and they told him that 1) His credit score was too low to bank there (no one said that this would be a problem while he was there opening the account IN PERSON, and since when are you not allowed to have a bank account for having a score that's in the 600s??) and 2) Because of his "low" credit score, his account activity (that he was advised to do, mind you) looked like money laundering. Just wow. So if your score is under 700, this bank clearly doesn't want you and anything you do is obviously money laundering.
We are about to go open an account at a new bank and once I have my payroll and everything all moved over, I will finally be closing my accounts. I've banked here since I was 18 (so for 11 years) and I'm done.
