My wife and I recently purchased a newly constructed home in Wilmington, NC and used First Citizens Bank for our mortgage loan. Bar none, it was the WORST experience we've ever had in over 35 years of doing real estate. The mortgage officer we dealt with was arrogant and rude and ultimately reneged on the amount he promised us in closing cost assistance. During one particularly tense conversation about a week out from closing, I was told I had three choices -- one of which was to cancel the transaction if I didn't like what I was being offered! This lack of performance on the bank's part cost us $800 additional out-of-pocket to close on the home. For an institution that has $200 BILLION in assets, I'm struggling to understand why they couldn't keep their word related to our transaction. I will absolutely not do business with First Citizens Bank again and will soon be filing complaints with the appropriate SC and federal agencies to address this matter. If you are shopping for a mortgage, this is NOT who you want to do business with.

First Citizens Bank is terrible, I've done business with several banks in town and they're the worst. They are generally non responsive and do not return phone calls.
