This is something I do regularly as part of my job, using a profile created specifically for this kind of authorized transaction. I am not there by choice or because I’m a TD customer. I’m there because my job requires it. Every time I visit any TD branch, the staff pushes me to open a personal account. I understand they want more clients, but I don’t need another account. I’m just trying to complete a work-related task and leave. This time, the treatment I received was simply unacceptable. A woman in her 30s, wearing a black and white vertically striped shirt, who seemed to be the branch manager, said to me, word for word: “It’s the bank’s way of protecting itself from money laundering.” She didn’t directly accuse me, but the implication was crystal clear. I was being treated as if I might be laundering money. I felt accused, humiliated, and extremely frustrated. This was not a misunderstanding. It was discrimination and a complete lack of respect. I will not return to this branch, and hopefully not even to this bank.
