Talked to Lexi about a mortgage; she was supposed to connect me with a mortgage specialist the next day. I never heard from her, and she didn't return my emails.

This morning, I noticed several unauthorized Uber transactions on my TD Canada Trust checking account. I called the bank and was advised to dispute the charges online and visit a branch to get a new card and update my phone number. Although I was out of town and didn’t have my old phone number on me, I was told any TD branch could assist.
I went to the TD Canada Trust branch at 130 Strasbourg Street in Candiac (across from Walmart on Boul. de Sardaigne) and was greeted by an incredible employee named Amara, a gentleman originally from Senegal. Amara made me feel welcomed, heard, and respected. We had a wonderful conversation about our countries, fragrances, and cultural differences between France and Canada—all while he worked to resolve my issue. Although he needed a supervisor to finalize the process, he remained kind, patient, and professional throughout. Truly one of the best customer service experiences I’ve had in a long time.
Unfortunately, my experience took a sharp turn when Valerie Begin, who introduced herself as the Director of Customer Service, came to assist. Her tone was cold, dismissive, and frankly rude. She didn’t make me feel like a valued customer at all. When I explained that I had changed my phone number, she repeatedly asked if someone else could receive a verification code on my old number—which made no sense, as I had just changed it. I pointed out the illogical nature of her question, and instead of helping, she tried to assert authority by telling me to “sit down” like I was a child. I refused, and stood my ground.
Rather than explaining what she was doing next, she left the desk abruptly and walked away to her office without a word—completely unprofessional. Amara later came back to reassure me and again apologized for the situation. I want to stress that I understand procedures and protocols, but the problem wasn’t the process—it was the way Valerie treated me. There was no empathy, no flexibility, and certainly no professionalism.
When Valerie returned, realizing (perhaps) how poorly she had handled the situation, she tried to soften up by offering me account options to save money—but by then, the damage was done. The interaction left a sour taste in my mouth, and I honestly felt disrespected and devalued as a TD customer.
To TD Canada Trust: You have a true gem in Amara, and I want to thank him for his patience and incredible energy. As for Valerie Begin, I strongly believe she owes me a personal apology. Someone in a director-level customer service position should be setting an example—not undermining the customer experience.
