I went into the branch to order a new debit card, as I was previously instructed to do by another Truist teller. I specifically asked to have the new card sent to the address that already appears on my account statements. However, the young teller with braces told me that I would need to provide two proofs of residence in order to receive a new card.
I explained that this was my existing physical address, already verified by Truist and actively used on my statements, so requiring additional proof made no sense. Despite this, she could not explain the reasoning behind her statement and simply repeated that two proofs were required. She was not rude, but she was not able to provide clarity or check for accuracy.
Immediately after leaving the branch, I called Truist customer service to confirm, and they verified that the teller’s claim was incorrect. In fact, customer service was able to order me a new debit card right away—no extra proof of residence was required. This means my trip to the branch was completely unnecessary.
This situation highlights a clear need for coaching. The teller should be trained to either provide an accurate explanation or escalate when unsure, rather than giving customers incorrect information. Telling a client they need “two proofs of residence” when the address is already on file and in active use not only makes no sense, it creates unnecessary frustration and wastes the customer’s time.

Terrible customer service. My local bank in Royersford and every other branch I went to has A+ customer service but this branch had me ready to close my account.
