Wells Fargo applied unspecified fraud criteria to my account based on incoming wires and froze the account for over a month and closed the account. They initiated wire recalls without any request from the senders and over my objections, contrary to law, placing a freeze on all of my funds—not just the wire amounts—from about November 1st to December 5th. This caused me to default on rent, credit card payments, medical obligations, and causing a girl to be unable to get a necessary operation, nearly costing her life. Wells Fargo gave no explanation for the alleged fraud other than the fact that the funds came from a third party. They contacted each sender, and all confirmed the wires were legitimate and sent for medical expenses. One sender was even told by Wells Fargo that the bank had apologized and that I could go to the branch to retrieve the funds. But when I went to the branch, Wells Fargo instead told me they had unilaterally recalled the wires over my objection and extended the freeze on my account until December 5th. Formal CFPB actions & findings against Wells Fargo for fraud-related freezes / account closures 2022 Consent Order — “2022-CFPB-0011” In December 2022, the CFPB issued an order finding that Wells Fargo had unfairly frozen multiple consumer deposit accounts in cases where bank systems flagged “suspected fraud,” even though “lesser restraints” (e.g. item-level holds) could have been used. The freeze often applied to the entire account (not just a suspicious deposit), cutting off customer access to all funds. On average, affected customers were unable to access their money for at least two weeks — until their accounts were closed and funds returned. The CFPB required Wells Fargo to pay over $160 million in remediation to more than one million deposit-account customers harmed by these freezes. As part of remediation, Wells Fargo was ordered to stop using full-account freezes as its default response; instead, it must employ less restrictive measures (e.g. “item-level holds” or selective debit/credit blocks) when reasonable. This shows a systemic pattern — not isolated incidents — of freezing or closing entire accounts based on automated fraud detection, rather than careful manual review, in a way the CFPB deemed “unfair"

I recently lost my father, and when my mother came into this branch with his death certificate, they refused to give her his account number. They were married for over 62 years. She has every piece of paper possible to prove they were married, and that she is the beneficiary. However, the bank would not release this key information. Now we have to go through an entire process that is foolish and unnecessary. Involving lawyers. The other financial institutions had no problem with cooperating, including Fidelity and TIAA. The central question is, why would you make this difficult for a new widow?

This branch has historically had good customer service and has been good to work with when it came to our business accounts. We have been with them since 2008.

They're always really friendly. I'm not a fan of Wells Fargo as a bank but this branch has never done me wrong.
