Umpqua Bank helps people, businesses and communities find financial solutions that fit.
We do so by treating our customers like people, not numbers. We get to know them and find products and services that meet their needs and goals. And we give back to the communities we serve because it helps us all.
Umpqua offers the best of both worlds – the financial expertise and strength of a national bank with the customer service and care of a community bank.
When opening an account here, the young man that helped me, Nathan, was very efficient, entertaining, and pleasant to deal with. I also met another young woman at the time, as I had just had a surgery, and she had had a similar issue herself, so we started speaking, and it felt like 'Family' pretty straight out of the box, so to speak. Long story short, when I now call the young lady at the branch, 'Shannon', (because Nathan had transferred to a Seattle Branch since I opened my account), she is Always Very Efficient, Very Kind, and Very Gracious to offer help or information that I need, and has been An Absolute Pleasure to deal with. I cannot say the same for a few more of the Columbia banks, that seem to be having issues reflected on their low review ratings, not to mention my personal experience with the same branches, which seems to mirror those low scores. Choose your branches and the People in them Carefully, because there seems to be a Huge Span between Great Service, and mediocre, all within this one 'Organization'. (Sorry to say, but it is the truth.) I Would Recommend This Branch on Southwest Columbia, or the Branch in Downtown Portland near Nordstrom, if you want Good Service with your banking needs. Good Luck, and Best Wishes!

Subject: Urgent Complaint – Employee Misconduct & False Allegations at Bend, OR Branch
To Whom It May Concern,
I am filing a formal complaint regarding a serious incident involving staff at your Umpqua Bank branch located at:
475 NE Windy Knolls Dr, Bend, Oregon.
On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at approximately 10:00 AM, while I was legally parked on a public road across the street from the bank (not on bank property), one of your employees began taking photographs of me without cause. While photography in public is not illegal, the action was uncalled for and harassing.
Following this, the employee contacted the Bend Police Department and made false allegations against me, claiming I was “using my phone to steal information from ATMs.” This is a baseless and fabricated accusation that resulted in a false police report. I was doing nothing unlawful, and I was simply minding my own business.
This behavior is unacceptable for a representative of your institution. Not only does it constitute harassment and defamation, but it also wastes police resources and damages my reputation.
I am requesting that this matter be immediately escalated to your Employee Conduct / Ethics Department for investigation. I expect prompt corrective action to be taken against the employee(s) involved and a written response from Umpqua Bank acknowledging receipt of this complaint.
Please treat this as a priority matter.
Sincerely,
Christopher clawson

It's 2022 and I cannot create an online account because their tech systems are basically a huge collection of cat hairballs smashed together with dog slobber. Site says it can't find my information, when it's there. Also says my phone number is one I don't recognize. Oh yeah. It's an hour wait to get to talk to someone on the phone. The callback system is terrible, too.
Data engineering is not hard, Umpqua. Just requires people to not do dumb things.

Today we find ourselves inundated with email. Unfortunately sometimes the important stuff gets lost in the confusion of the mass of junk we receive. This is what happened to my son regarding his request for a waiver of required health insurance while attending PSU. He has insurance through our family plan but PSU had decided that our deductible was not to their liking and if he didn't have $660 in a HSA they were going to charge us $890 + $200 in late fees for an insurance policy that he would likely never use.
Because their billing system is so lacking, they do not provide information related to bills due until the day they are due. Meaning I received an email from PSU today saying the bill was due today. Surely there is a better way to do things.... Regardless, the lost email to our son said that if he had a HSA with $660 deposited they would do him and us the favor of waiving the insurance requirement.
In comes our knight in shining armor Kyle Canifax, who helped us get the account established just in the nick of time with a smile and good humor! Thank you Kyle you are a gem! Thank you also to all the staff at Umpqua that greeted us with a smile and helped us connect with Kyle. You were all great!
