The in-person staff at this bank are consistently polite and helpful. However, my attempts to utilize their services have been unsuccessful twice in the last year.
Eight months ago, I tried to open an estate account, but was told the earliest appointment was almost two weeks away. I ended up going to US Bank and opened both an estate checking and savings account the same day.
Today, I intended to open personal checking and savings accounts to finally move away from my out-of-state credit union. I was informed that a hard credit inquiry (which negatively affects your FICO score) is required to open a checking account. I'm very particular about maintaining my credit score and the reasons for impacting it. I've never encountered this requirement before, and unfortunately, I'll be taking my business elsewhere due to this unreasonable policy.
A hard credit pull makes sense when someone is borrowing money, but for simply depositing funds, it's baffling. This seems like a departure from common-sense business practices. Having worked in finance, I know that a soft inquiry would provide most of the necessary information.
Furthermore, banks have ChexSystems, a specialized system designed to flag individuals with negative account histories or bad checks, making a hard inquiry for a checking account even more perplexing.

Rogue's decision to eliminate the Harbor Branch has decreased the convenience for customers & increased the wait time at the Brookings Branch, where there's almost always a long line.

This branch deserves negative stars. They don't care if your account is fraudulently used. The purposely wait until after their defined deadlines to deny any fraud investigation or reimbursement for fraudulent charges coming from the account. They do not care about their customers or protecting their money. Even if Adult Protective Service was involved and filed charges against the individuals for financial elder abuse. They only care about profit. FDIC and NCSUIF are in place for a reason.
Anyone in the local area should get their hard earned money out of this facility!
