To whom it may concern: This complaint informs you of my experience at the TD bank location mentioned on Avenue J. On 09/06/2022 at 2:20 pm, I visited the bank, hoping to do a cash deposit into my checking Account. I chose to do this via the bank teller like I usually do when I need the funds to be available immediately. To my knowledge, the ATM machines that allow deposit located at the bank tells you that funds may not be available right away hence why I wanted to get it done through the bank teller. As I stepped into the bank, I was approached by a female employee that inquired about the reason for my visit. I told her I was there to make a deposit and then filled out the deposit slip to complete it. As I was waiting on my turn to approach the teller at the counter, the female employee who approached me when I stepped in came to me and suggested the use of the ATM to make the deposit. I expressed to her that I needed the funds to be available for use right away. She was unsure about whether that was possible via the ATM, so she went over to the teller at the counter to find out. When she returned, she asked whether it was cash or cheque and if it was a small amount or a large amount. I let her know that it was cash and it was a small amount. Moving forward, she then went behind the teller counter to attempt to help me get the transactions done. I handed her the deposit slip, which she didn’t acknowledge but instead asked for my debit card, which I found odd since it’s the first time I’ve been asked for my card to get a cash deposit done at the counter. So I inquired if it was a new procedure. She relayed that since February, a debit card has been required for deposit. I told her that I’d never been asked for my card before to get a deposit done and that I had recently made cash deposits, whereas I just provided the completed deposit slip with the cash, which was as simple as that. She responded that debit cards are required when making cash deposits and that she’s the teller manager. Therefore she would know. At this moment, I felt confused because it just didn’t seem to make sense. I told the teller I didn’t believe what she was saying was true, and I felt I was being profiled negatively because of my appearance. Based on the teller's demeanor, attitude, body language, tone of voice, and how she chose to communicate in an unwelcoming, dismissive, and don’t care expression led me to believe I was being singled out because of how I looked. I believe such behaviors and practices, consciously or unconsciously, are wrong and unprofessional in such environments. As a result, I didn’t complete the deposit with the teller; I decided to leave not before conveying that I won’t be using TD bank anymore and that I intended to close all my accounts with TD bank. Teller replied, saying, okay no problem. This shows a lack of care and that TD bank doesn’t value its customers.
