Managing my personal finances and all the machinations that go along with trying to invest wisely, minimize taxes, maximize returns, and just understanding the financial world is NOT my favorite activity -- to say the least. But the folks at First Command are a pleasure to deal with and have sure helped me and my family be successfully situated for retirement. Thanks so much Arlene, Ken, and now Thomas. Good people looking out for us!

We've been with First Command for almost 40 years. Met our new Advisor in the Albuquerque office today, and it was a great meeting. Very service oriented, with great advice on some pending financial decisions we need to make, and possible options for making them. Good recap at the end of the meeting on what we need to do, and what our agent will be doing. Appreciate the professional approach and solid advice.

For all the young investors (military or non military) looking to start investing PLEASE READ. I joined as a young junior officer after recommendation from a senior officer. I left after a year, I don’t regret learning from my mistake, but want others to avoid it if a financial advisor is not right for them after they educate themselves on the pros/cons.
They will offer you a year for free, but this is inaccurate. I will say as a new person to investing it was a nice introduction to things; however, the cost is hefty. They will recommend you hand selected funds, but they have 5.95% front loads of them. This means if you hand over $10,000 to them you instantly lose $595 of your hard earned cash into those selected funds. This goes to the actively managed fund and advisor whom is helping you for “free” the first year.
I encourage you to read Simple Path of Wealth first, which will discuss more about financial advisors. You can easily put your money in Vanguard or Fidelity low cost index funds with no front load and most likely make more than these active managed funds; however, some people do need financial advisors to keep them on track. Nice people, but know what you are getting yourself into. I was disappointed that these hidden fees were not openly told to me, but then who would likely invest knowing that?
