This branch exemplifies the lousy image that the banking industry has. Their customer service is abysmal. Their manager is rude. Their policies are designed solely to line their own pockets while putting their boots on the necks of any potential competition.
They actually closed someone's personal bank account after a "review." They issued him $15,000 in cash as well as a cashiers check for over $36,000. But when a Money Service Business, licensed and regulated by the state Department of Banking, attempted to verify the legitimacy of the check, they were stonewalled. What kind of bank issues a cashiers check but refuses to verify the legitimacy and standing of it? Does that not beget more potential fraud? They are essentially expecting other financial institutions, including banks, to "roll the dice" by either cashing the check or allowing it to be deposited and hoping that it clears. All the while, they are disenfranchising this gentleman (who incidentally just so happens to be a minority immigrant) and preventing him from quickly and easily obtaining HIS money.
Just know that if you deal with a bank such as First Bank, they can arbitrarily close your account at anytime and for any reason they deem fit. But it doesn't end there. They will then essentially hold YOUR money hostage by handing you a worthless piece of paper, issued by them, that they won't even authenticate. It's not for security purposes or because of FinCen guidelines. Rather, it is simply an anti-competition tactic. They want to make it as difficult as humanly possible for anyone to bank anywhere but with them. And don't waste your time asking them to articulate an explanation for their self-imposed policy. They will just repeat over and over again, like a Teddy Ruxpin doll, that they do not do that. Not why they won't do it or even how you should proceed. They just mindlessly repeat the same lame line over and over again.
If you are thinking of banking here, don't. If you already are then I strongly suggest you get out. They will try to hand you a piece of paper that they will not even stand behind themselves, but do not take it. Demand cash and/or a wire transfer to your new bank. You know, a bank that actually treats you like a decent human being and doesn't close your account because you don't look or speak like them and therefore must be "up to something."

Moving back to the area and stopped into your Williamstown NJ branch to get a roll of quarters for tolls. Because we didn’t have an account they would NOT give us change. I feel like reporting your institution. Since when is legal tender not accepted at a bank. POOR SERVICE!! I would not bank at your institution ever. Lazy personnel and poor business practice. I certainly will spread the word. Shame on you.

Everyone at this branch of FirstBank always goes above and beyond. They are friendly and care about their customers. It is refreshing to do business with a bank that really cares this much. I highly recommend them.
