I stood in a Capital One branch while employees walked past me, smiled at others, and skipped over me as if I didn’t belong — even though I am a customer. I wasn’t ignored because I didn’t have an account. I was ignored because of the color of my skin. I watched others walk in after me and be helped right away. I wasn’t mistaken. I wasn’t being sensitive. I was being dismissed — quietly, but deliberately. This wasn’t just bad customer service. This was racial bias, plain and simple. And it happened at a bank that claims to value diversity and inclusion. I didn’t come to Capital One for pity. I came with business, with purpose, and with the right to be treated like everyone else. But I left with a harsh reminder that, even in 2025, being Black still means being overlooked.
