  I rarely write reviews, but my recent experience with Valley Bank was frustrating enough that I feel compelled to share it. This is especially important for anyone who values face-to-face customer service. I walked into the Ridgewood branch hoping to open a new account. I expected to sit down with a representative, go over the options, ask a few questions, and walk out with my account set up. Instead, I was met with indifference and a repeated refrain: “You have to do that online.” There was no greeting. No effort to understand my needs. Just a cold directive to go home and figure it out myself. I explained that I had questions about the different account types and wanted help navigating the process. I even mentioned that I wasn’t comfortable submitting sensitive personal information online without first speaking to someone. Still, the response was the same: “We don’t open accounts in person anymore.” There was no offer to walk me through the online process. No printed materials. No attempt to make me feel like a valued customer. What’s worse is that I wasn’t the only one. While I waited, I saw another person with similar request. The other person was an elderly gentleman who clearly wasn’t tech-savvy. He was turned away with the same dismissive advice: “Go online.” There was no empathy. No assistance. I understand that banks are trying to streamline operations and promote digital services. But there is a difference between encouraging online convenience and completely abandoning in-person support. Not everyone is comfortable with technology. Not everyone has access to reliable internet. And frankly, not everyone wants to open a financial account without speaking to a human being first. A bank should be more than just a website. It should be a place where people feel supported, informed, and respected, especially when dealing with something as personal and important as their finances. Valley bank failed on all counts. If you are looking for a bank that values customer service and is willing to meet you where you are, whether that is online or in person, I recommend looking elsewhere. This experience made it clear that Valley bank is more interested in pushing people through a digital funnel than actually helping them.

  Superlative service and staff! This is the perfect local bank that everyone needs to have -- one that supports you and provide both expertise and excellent service when you need it. I have been a customer for several years, and the team at this branch has been amazing. Maninder Kaur, the Service Excellence Manager, always remembers who I am and greets me warmly and makes sure I get what I need. The tellers are all also very personable and responsive. This branch was especially helpful when my family needed support during a difficult estate planning issue -- they had the expertise and caring to make sure things were done correctly -- and were very patient in explaining how things worked to my family and I. Yes, bank aps are great and convenient, but when things are tough or you need questions answered, nothing beats having access to 'live' expertise like what is available at this Valley Bank branch. Kudos to all at this branch! Bravo! And thank you for all your help!
