Online banking app is horribly made and frustrating. Make you constantly change passwords, and if you enter it wrong they lock you out of your account. Then they say they can’t change your password “because only you know it.”

Okay so I have waited for about a week to write this, and cool down. my experience with this banking establishment was precisely 40 days, and this might get a little long.
My background: I have just graduated college and wanted to get a local bank for basically easier communication/free ATM transactions (I have had my small town bank all the way through college). I didn't want to go to a large country wide bank, because I like to support local, or close to it.
So I decided to give Bell Bank a try, I opened my account at the 52nd location. The employee was great, super nice and informative I have never had a complaint about the employees, just the "policy". this I have a huge problem with, te policy I'm talking about is their holds on checks. when I opened the account I didn't have any income because I was just finishing up with finals and hadn't worked for a few weeks so access to my first paycheck at the big boy job was critical. This policy that I'm talking about holds your checks, no matter who from, for 30 days without question. Now I had planned on a direct deposit which doesn't fall under that policy, unfortunately my employer did a "test" direct deposit and mailed my first check so it did fall under this policy. So I called and asked if I deposited the check on the day the 30 days was up, if I would have access to the funds no later than the following Monday. to which the lady responded, yes after taking all of my information. Great so I did. I waited until Monday and the balance no longer read pending, but the available still didn't register the deposit so I called again.
This was the most frustrating phone call I have ever experienced, again not due to the employees. I was told that because I had made the deposit on that Friday and I was the last day of that 30 day period, it would need to be held for another 7 days (5 business days)… to make matters worse, I was told if I had made the deposit that day (Monday) I would have access to it the following day (6 days earlier than I could now). this simply wasn't acceptable again because I hadn't had a paycheck for 6 weeks now, and people usually have bills in that timeframe.
you thought that would be the end huh. well I went in on the Monday I was told I could have access to that money to close my account, and was originally told that I wouldn't be able to until the following day. at this point (40 days after opening the account) I just wanted out. thankfully they were able to make a call to lift that hold. I walked out of the 23rd ave location and opened up an account at their direct competitor and had access to that money before I even walked out of the building...
I have people close to me who have been in and around the banking industry for longer than I have been alive, and they have never heard of this policy. The check that needed to be held was from a very reputable local company that has been here for 50+ years, so its not like a sketchy check from a fake person.
This policy tells me that Bell Bank doesn't care to look into/help out a new customer. basically puts them through a "earn your trust" period. I will never step foot in a Bell Bank building or recommend them to anyone. this experience has actually turned away a few of my friends who have heard this story.
Ps. I made numerous calls to the branches/customer service throughout this whole process. I tried to find out why this policy exists, but nobody had an answer other than it was company "policy"
