At Truist, our purpose is to inspire and build better lives and communities. That happens through real care to make things better. To meet client needs, to empower teammates, and to lift up communities.
I walked into the Truist Bank on Military Cutoff around 4:40 PM—well before closing time—intending to cash a check and open a new account, since I'm new to Wilmington and my usual bank (Chase) isn't in the area. I was next in line, clearly stated my intentions, and was immediately told it was “too late” to open an account.
To add insult to inconvenience, I was informed that cashing my check would cost an $8 fee—despite me actively trying to become a customer. If Truist truly valued new business, this interaction didn’t show it. No alternative offered, no follow-up suggested, just a flat refusal and a fee for the trouble. Not exactly the welcome I expected in a new city.

After holding a check their analysts marked as fraud for 17 days, they received the funds the day it was deposited, they requested a letter from the bank that issued the check confirming who what when and where. I complied and a day later I called back to check the status and they closed my account and are sending me a cashier check, which should reach me in another 7 days. I have had this account for one week before I deposited the check. Incompetence is their specialty and customer service is not their specialty. And as far as their response to this review, who cares?

ATMs would not take a deposit at Oleander or Eastwood branches this morning. Used the mobile app to deposit a check, but you can't deposit cash through an app. When I called to report this, I navigated the phone system to only sit on hold until I gave up. Bad experience.
