- JLjeff lewisSep 17, 20251.0Wells Fargo makes people come into a branch and show ID to allow someone to have POA on an account. So if you want to force an elderly relative that has trouble seeing and walking out your $ in Wells Fargo otherwise pick most other banks.

I brought my 95 year old Mother to the branch to discuss options for paying off a prime equity line of credit. She has been banking with Wells (Formerly Wachovia) for nearly 40 years. I presented Sabian with her Debit card, credit card, ss card and her now expired driver's license. They told us they could not help us without a valid ID despite the fact that she had all of her documentation. I am on her account and presented my cards and my valid driver's license. That was not acceptable either. So, am I supposed to drag a 95 year old down to the dmv for a state ID in their current status? It seems to me this could have been dealt with very easily. We do have a letter with an 800 # that they said we could call to discuss her options. When I asked how they would identify her over the phone, they had no answer. Very poor customer service and no one thinks outside of the box anymore. Shame on you Wells for treating a 95 year old lady the way you did. Sabian and the branch manager (Marianne) are useless.
