A not-for-profit financial cooperative owned by its members, SECU has been providing employees of the State of North Carolina and their families with consumer financial services for over 80 years.
While the folks at the branch here are great, the car loan system NCSECU has is trash.
I was approved for a vehicle loan, applied with all the information on the vehicle I was aiming to purchase. Make, model, year, vin, etc. They sent me an approval, got all the other stuff sorted out, paid for new insurance on it, and sent the documentation over with a bill of sale. Following all the directions they asked for.
I call in and ask if they got everything so I can get payment documents for the dealership.
So after all this, what do they say? "I'm sorry we can't approve a loan for a commercial vehicle."
What the heck? They send me an approval, I spend about $700 adding the new vehicle to my insurance, based on them approving it and they try to pull the rug?

I do love the banking app and the bank overall. I had a very RUDE customer service experience at the Lenoir location on June 25th, 2025 in front of my 12 year old son. I came in to cash checks. The man didn’t seem like he wanted to help to begin with. I came in a little after 5:00. During the transaction, i misunderstood a question he asked about how I wanted my cash. No one has ever asked me what bills I wanted and has just always given me an envelope with bills of their choice. I had him repeat the question and the lean closer to my face and talked as slow as he possibly could with attitude as if I were slow. My 12 year old noticed how rude it was as well! It was very embarrassing for him to do that in front of people and his coworkers. The name plate appeared to be Craig, I think. I don’t remember the last name but he is the most rude person I have ever encountered. I wasn’t going to post, but it has bothered me since yesterday! Granite Falls and Hickory are always so nice! Go there instead if you possibly can!
