A not-for-profit financial cooperative owned by its members, SECU has been providing employees of the State of North Carolina and their families with consumer financial services for over 80 years.
Very poor service I was made to provide my Social Security number while having ID and an atm card. They actually want me to write down my Social Security number on a piece of paper for them, which introduces all types of possibility for fraud and misuse Meena was the representative I work with This is not a good practice for security

I have never received worse customer service than I did today at the Slater Road branch. I have been banking with SECU for 20 years and I’ve never experienced anything like this at any branch before. I came in today to open an estate account for a deceased relative only to be met with incredible rudeness and misinformation by the staff here. Janice was at the front desk and insisted to me repeatedly that once a member passes away SECU cannot open an estate account for them. I asked how that rule could even make sense when most people don’t need to open estate accounts until someone passes away. I tried over and over to explain what was happening and that I was sure she was incorrect as I had already opened estate account at another branch previously. I thought, maybe she’s just misunderstanding what I’m asking, but when I tried to explain she just interrupted me to repeat herself. I asked if there was someone else I could speak with because what she was saying made no sense. She kept insisting that the trusts department would reject it. She told me well you can talk to the branch manager but they’re going to tell you the same thing. I ended up leaving because it felt like I was up against a brick wall with her and it was very clear she had no intention of letting me speak to anyone else. Thankfully I was able to drive over to the branch on NC-54, everyone was lovely and I was able to open the account without ANY hassle. I will definitely be avoiding this branch in the future.

The staff have been helpful when I’ve stopped inside. SECU members can usually get something notarized within 10-15 minutes of walking in without an appointment, which I’ve utilized on several occasions. The ATM is quick and simple to use.
I highly recommend their Estate Planning Essentials Program, which includes: Will that may include trust provisions, Durable Power of Attorney (POA), Health Care Power of Attorney (HCPOA), Living Will, and HIPAA Authorization for $325/$425 (married couple).
