A not-for-profit financial cooperative owned by its members, SECU has been providing employees of the State of North Carolina and their families with consumer financial services for over 80 years.
I had the misfortune of being contacted by someone at this branch. From the moment I picked up the phone, she seemed like I had done something to annoy her. We discussed a payment I would be making the next day. Instead, 6 hours after our call, she wiped all but $2 out of my account to make a payment on a different loan - that we never discussed. I only learned of this transfer the next day, when I received notice that a payment I’d scheduled had been unsuccessful. I called the office and was basically told they couldn’t get in touch with the person who had made the transfer but they wouldn’t be willing to correct it. This, of course, caused financial penalties to me, put me behind on other payments (utilities, mortgage) that I’d scheduled, and was generally a massive inconvenience. I am in the process of opening a checking account at another bank since I apparently can’t trust that NCSECU won’t just decide to empty my account whenever they feel like it, despite conversations to the contrary. This economy and job loss is hard enough without the bank you’ve been a member of for decades pushing you further into the hole, especially when you’ve stayed in constant communication and made a clear plan on the phone 6 hours earlier.

Although they could use a little more consistent staff in the drive-thru (sometimes things get busy there and one person is not enough to handle eight cars in two lanes, for example), my experiences here have been good. I believe you have to have a family member who is part of the credit union to join and I came by membership through my mother's connection to her husband who worked for the state. I love that you automatically get a checking AND savings and that it is easy to move funds from account to account online, which has allowed me to save money a lot easier from time to time. Other banks I have been with in the past do not make their savings account very accessible. The drive thru is separate from the main building which cuts down on traffic. Thanks for a great experience!

My spouse and I had to take a loan recently. We had the pleasure of having Kelly-Ogarroo-Brown to assist us with our application.
Kelly was honest, and great in informing us of our options.
She made the process seamless and less stressful. We were able to get a reasonable rate as well. It was a pleasure dealing with this credit union and Kelly. Thank you so much and Blessing
