A not-for-profit financial cooperative owned by its members, SECU has been providing employees of the State of North Carolina and their families with consumer financial services for over 80 years.
I have been a member of this bank for several years, THOUSANDS of dollars gets deposited into my checking account month over month, however, I received a letter dated for 12/31 that my checking account is being closed due to mismanagement.
Due to an unexpected hardship and change in a few of my accounts, payments that were set to autopay were being returned due to NSF. To be clear, ALL NSF CHARGES WERE ALWAYS PAID and when I would retry my payments after noticing the error, they would process.
I called the 1-800 line and they let me know that it is the branches discretion on whether they decide to close the account or not.
I called this branch seeing if there could be any grace provided given that I have banked with them for years, the amount of money that has been deposited over these years, and that my car is financed through them, and the amount of arrogance in the tone of the teller I spoke to was nauseating.
When asked to speak to the branch manager, she was apparently 'in a meeting' and couldn't take any time to chat with me (even though I called as soon as they opened).
To know that there can be grace given and this branch is refusing and closing my account over no more than 2 months of 'mismanagement' vs. 4 years of being in good standing is ridiculous and shows lack of care for customers and their dollars!

I have been with SECU for over 20 years. I have never had any problems before. I had to get another bank card. They put in a order for me another bank card on December 3rd until this day December 25th haven't received another card yet. Have called the bank several times. Had 2 bad experiences with people over the phone. Last time the manager did try to work with me. But will be closing out my account and finding another bank as soon as possible!
