A not-for-profit financial cooperative owned by its members, SECU has been providing employees of the State of North Carolina and their families with consumer financial services for over 80 years.
I've been banking with NC SECU since 2023. By far, this particular location has some of the nastiest, discriminate employees working there. I've cashed numerous school refund checks from the same educational institution and have always had these checks scrutinized, even though I was simply depositing them and not trying to cash them. A few weeks ago, a couple of days before Halloween, I went to this branch to cash a small mileage reimbursement check. The banker, who wore bumblebee wings (I assume as a Halloween costume) first acted as if she did not want to call me to her line when I was the next person to be served. She did not greet me as I greeted her upon stepping up to the counter. I asked her if I could cash the mileage reimbursement check (less than $30.00). She informed me that I would not be able to cash the check because my account was in the negative. Which is fine, that is SECU's policy, I assume, so no argument from me. Subsequently, I requested a print out of my bank statement for the month of October. This request was met with a frown and a gruff "how far back do you want the statement printout to be go?" Which I politely answered and provided her the beginning and end dates. She then began printing out the statement, roughly extended the printout to me and didn't utter a word after handing me the printed out statement. I went to sit down in the lobby and saw the next person that walked up to her counter and she was all smiles. I am a woman of color and the person this banker warmly greeted was not. Again, this is not my first time being discriminated against at this SECU location. In Late 2024, I paid a balance of $25 on a closed checking account and every time I came into this location, their computer allegedly showed that I still owed this balance (even though I'd paid in full at the counter with a teller). It took 3 different tellers and 20 minutes to almost complete an FBI investigation into the balance of $25 that I'd previously paid. I felt incredible discriminated against. Lastly, during my most recent and final dealing with this SECU location, the lady with the bumblebee costume was the final straw for me to never do banking at this SECU bank on Walnut Street in Cary, NC ever again. There also aren't any people of color that are employed at this location, besides one woman that worked there in 2024 and I've yet to see her again. I now go to the SECU on Macedonia where the tellers and bankers are a mixture of races and ethnicities. I would avoid the SECU on Walnut Street at ALL costs if you are a person of color who simply wants to do honest, decent business with a financial institution without fear and anxiety of banking while being heavily scrutinized because of the color of your skin.

I went to get service for my auto loan, and I ended up dealing with a lady who I prefer to not mention her name just for respect to her, but she was very arrogant with her attitude towards us me the entire time she was helping us she showed an arrogant attitude. I received nothing but the Worst Customer Service only arrogance. Definitely canceling all my accounts with SECU.

The drive thru portion of the bank is often backed up at this location and takes me more than 15 minutes to just deposit money. 🤦🏻♂️

Got my mortgage here. The staff is solid, but the layout of the building seems to be not very well thought out.
