I worked with Alayet (A light) - a wonderfully kind knowledgeable loan officer. I am not exaggerating, she really was just great! She was available and happy to answer all my questions (I had many) but never seemed annoyed. I could not recommend Bell Bank enough, especially to first time home buyers.

I can't believe this place has 4.7 ratings. Google is cracking down on un-verified ratings. And when looking for a mortgage lender, make sure they are willing to listen to you and not just be concerned with how much money they are going to make, or how much they will have to work to make it happen. I just spoke with the most argumentative mortgage lender. I've never had this issue before. He started out so friendly when I called yesterday, and I was very hopeful. I was so happy to hear from him today, and then it just turned into this big fiasco. I asked Paul Lundeen questions about small mortgages with no credit score due to paying off all of my debt. I'm older and do not want to have a huge mortgage that I can't afford. I'm already paying three times the amount of the mortgage I'm seeking in rent. FHA will allow manual underwriting and vantage scores as well as Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. He said he would talk to the underwriter or manager and get back in touch with me and he did. He told me he would have to pull my credit before he could do anything. Which isn't true. He could answer my questions first. These mortgage lenders don't seem to understand that every time you pull your credit it's a ding. Anyway, I told him that would be fine, as long as I know ahead of time what the criteria of my loan application would be, to see if I would even qualify. He told me I was trying to bend the rules. What?! I know he said they had to pull a report anyway, I understand that. But why would I want to pull a credit score that's not there, and potentially make this worse, if I didn't financially qualify in the first place? I really hope that phone call was recorded. I don't know what stuff he is dealing with, I know it's a busy time of year. But if you can't even ask questions without someone getting upset and becoming argumentative, then this is not the kind of Bank you want to go to. No matter how many times I said I understand, and I listened to him. Paul was hell bent on not qualifying me anyway. He told me the range of payment that I would be able to get a house with, "where can you find a house like that?" And yet when I told him I found houses in that price range he didn't believe me. I tried to tell him I'm not trying to fight with you but I ended up having to hang up on him. This is a bank with 4.7 stars? I'm having such trouble these days that I think I will just buy land and build. If you are a person who wants to live out your life without debt and are super responsible like me, go to a bank who respects you. Not Bell bank.

I've been with Bell since 2005. They are a great bank. I'd love if they could get a location in the cities that's open as late as their locations in Fargo/Moorhead, but their phone customer service is above and beyond, so it makes up for closing at 5:30. I love the change saver program and automatic refunds for ATM fees (up to a certain # per month).

Good community bank growing into a regional bank but keeping the personal touch. Great staff, you never feel like a number.
