  I have been a long time customer. I have been a long time customer because I am very satisfied with my experience with Mercantile. I have had several loans and different types of accounts and all have been made with a minimum of hassle. Cesar Gonzalez helped us with our mortgage and went way beyond what he was required to do. It was great process. I highly recommend this bank.

  This used to be a good bank. Unfortunately, such is not the case anymore. I have never done business with a more self-serving institution. And this isn't an issue of our business having any financial distress in any way or sour grapes. I shopped my loans with other community banks in West Michigan and found two banks that beat their "best" rate by over 2% - saving me over $100,000 a year in interest. So of course I am trying to move to another bank. In the move to another bank, they're dragging this out, charging me all sorts of extra fees (beyond those specified in the loan documents) and holding onto the loans as long as they can - so they can collect almost double what the market is for my loans. Truly pathetic customer service. Before you do business with Mercantile, I highly recommend you talk to Chemical Bank, Macatawa Bank, Bank of Holland, any bank of similar size will, if your experience is anything like mine, save you $1000s of dollars and give far superior customer service.
