We have been customers of this bank for many years (since before it changed to FNB). The branch is under staffed and the wait times even for simple things are ridiculous! The customer service was so much better when it was Howard bank! It used to be our neighborhood bank where your were greeted with smiles. Now its just part of a big bank.

I’m trying to be patient but this is tough.
Pros: I got a decent rate on a loan.
Cons: (These are general FNB problems not necessarily specific to this branch. )
Everything takes forever. Support barely knows the definition of various banking terms like wire, ACH, etc, so they give incorrect and incomplete information… which then leads to incorrect action, which then leads to more wasted time, and simple things like sending a wire taking over a week.
They use an antiquated computer system that requires an employee to manually enter everything, taking time and predisposing to errors. It is also inflexible… everything needs to fit a certain category which leads to forcing things to work and risk of not working. The online site and app are clunky and don’t have enough functionality. You still need to involve human staff for basic things. Transfer limits are so low they are not useful for me.
The people are nice, but their systems need to be brought up to modern times. I’ve been using better technology with other banks for over 15 years. The staff get frustrated because the antiquated systems cause lots of extra work. (E.g. if there’s an error they need to retype everything).
Also, I don’t love the nickel and diming fees for everything. I’m not used to that.

This branch has been a headache. I have sent emails and made phone calls and instead of taking 2 minutes to email me that there is no update to the FUNDS THAT i AM THE BENEFICIARY OF. I get a message from the Teller ( while I was on hold) that whom I need to speak to is on the other line, but he ( senior lending officer told the teller ) let her know there is no new update. This has been going on for over two weeks. I left a message with the manager of the bank and was told he was on lunch. He would be back around two pm ! Meanwhile im paying bills for my late father!

I was a Howard Bank business checking customer for years, then transitioned to First National when they bought Howard Bank. There have been issues since they took over (online banking log-in didn't work for 6 days after the transition; they have an annoying BillPay calendar that lets me select a day for payment then rejects that day as being too soon--so why have it available in the first place?). A recent occurrence is the last straw. My February 2024 statement shows a unspecified $12.00 "service charge." After two phone calls to the Ellicott City branch (did not receive a call back from the first representative) it was explained that the "service charge" was for using mobile deposit. What? I've been using mobile deposit since before First National took over in 2022 and this is the first time a service charge has appeared. There was no notice about this new charge. So now I have to drive to the branch to make a deposit in person to avoid a service charge. OK, so we all did that for years before the convenience of mobile banking, so it's not the end of the world. It is, however, the end of the line for me with First National. There are other banks out there who don't charge for what is by now, a standard service and not just a convenience.
