I have been a customer since 2006, I had two different mortgages with them and enthusiastically recommended them to others in the past. This is NOT the same local, for the people bank I was used to. They have switched over to a new banking system a few months ago and it has been nothing but trouble. I have NEVER been late with a mortgage payment with them in almost 20 years. I wasn’t this time either but with them having all kind of struggles with new system not working correctly, messages send out in error, them sending apology messages after. I knew I received a message that I was late with my mortgage. I checked my bank, I saw the money deducted so I wasn’t worried, I assumed it was another error, somehow their old and new system didn’t communicate. When I received another notice that I am late I decided it’s time to clarify, maybe it’s not a bank error. I went to a branch, talked to them about it. Turns out what I paid was a few dollars lower than what I owed due to escrow going up. I asked them to NOT report me to the credit bureaus, it’s only a few $ and not intentional. If they didn’t have the system change I would have paid attention to the initial notice but I just believed it’s an error on their part and was giving them time to work on it. The person I talked to said “they aren’t willing” to bend the rules for me and will have to report me. My cherished, highly protected credit score dropped 50 points due to their error.
Part 2: Two months ago I try to set up online mortgage payment with the new system/new app. I was struggling figuring it out, I go to a branch to learn transferring funds from other banks aren’t working yet, they will have to sort it out. Ok, sure, in the mean time I will have to find time to go to a branch and pay my mortgage monthly.
Last month I didn’t have the chance to go to a branch until the 12th. (After the 15th there if a late fee). There is a sign on the door: all branches closed today due to system updates, I wasted my lunch break. But I’m happy, ok, good news, hopefully they are fixing the online payment. That afternoon, on the 12th I check the app and was excited to learn my online transfer worked and went thru. Money deducted from my other bank on the 12th, app said all paid.
But still, somehow I am hit with a late fee and threats of being reported to the credit bureaus again?
I am exhausted, I can’t deal with them anymore. If not for my super low interest rates I would refinance and never ever deal with this bank again.

I'm leaving as many negative reviews for this bank as i can, and its not a branch issue, but rather a top down issue. Unfortunately overtime from the last 8 or so years ive been a peoples bank customer, this bank has become less and less "peoples bank" and more "policies over people bank". Unfortunately i am currently in a bit of a tight position right now, as many of us are as the economy and government are looted and tanked and as a tech industryt guy, work in that sector is non existent. I have tried to get a reccurring payment stopped, and while the company on their end said it was halted, i was getting overdraft fees, but for some reason without any indication that there was a payment that was taken out of my account that overdrafted it. It just showed a positive account balance and then an overdraft fee being taken out. I contacted support and they just told me sorry, policy says we cant do anything, even knowing of my situation and the oddity of the fee coming out with no indication of a payment. They just said professionally go kick rocks and scammed me. This is not the only sketchy deal peoples bank has done, from double dipping canceled checks that were supposedly cancelled, to charging more fees than CHASE BANK.... Yes you read that right, i have a chase business account and with the tough economy had bouced payments and whatnot and guess what? They just rejected the payment in the backgground without hitting me with an onslought of fees!! Really telling when a national bank is doing better service than a local one, the whole point of a local bank is that local hospitality and service!! Well, they just lost me permanently as a customer and i will be looking into suing in small claims court if i can even do so with lawyer fees being as expensive as they are, dont know if its reallt worth it. But out of principal when i get in a better position i just might!!! Stay away from scambank!!! Will be posting all over community forums and all branches!!! I would hate to wee another person thats already down get beat anymore!

Do Not Use This Branch, highly untrained they do not know how to properly help their guests with simple tasks. i had to drive to holyoke both times and they quuickly and simply handled the same requests with no issues!!!

Incompetent in handling of accounts for individuals requiring conservators and powers of attorney. Provide incorrect guidance and failure to provide needed documentation prior to the death of the disabled account holder now forces family to either go to probate or abandon the money to the bank because it will cost more to fight for the money than how much is in the account. Created a burial account and then made it so family cannot access the money. Apparently the decedent is supposed to arise from the dead to withdraw their own burial account. You should be ashamed of yourselves!
Reply to Chrissy - I had to call corporate and deal with multiple higher level managers to get this issue mostly resolved. The completion of resolution has not occurred. I stand by my statements that the Northampton branch is incompetent and either does not know their products or does not know how to fully inform customers of the nuances of the products that they are providing. This left our family in the situation where we can not access funds and there was no documentation provided on the details of the account. I personally had to eat the cost of a funeral (when there is a burial account) and I almost had to go to probate. I very much appreciate the assistance by higher level managers outside the Northampton Branch, but that does not negate the incompetence of Northampton branch. I should not have to go up the food chain and call corporate to get appropriate help. At bare minimum your staff should have been able to provide general information about the type of account that I needed information about (ie how does one get money out of a funeral account). That is not privileged information and does not violate any laws. No one asked for account balance, account numbers etc. Telling me I need to go to probate rather than telling me a general piece of information like how does money get withdrawn after death is asinine.
