Let me start off by saying we have been members of Consumers CU for over 15-20 years, possibly longer. We have had multiple vehicle loans with them over the years all which have been paid off. We were in the market for a new truck for my husband and frankly we will NEVER deal with the finance dept in a dealership ever again. We will ONLY deal with CCU directly. You want to avoid bs, SKIP THE DEALER for financing!
This is our 4th vehicle loan with CCU and it was as easy as the others to get it done. We found the vehicle we liked at a dealer, of course had no interest in their financing, so after some time (I'd say maybe 15 minutes) we were able to get a bill of sale out of them (as I knew CCU would need this), they finally gave it to me and we headed to the Volo CCU location. This time I did not do the pre-approval process like I have done in the past, as we kind of went looking on a whim on a Monday. Anyway we went into the CCU in Volo and took about 45 min total (as I mentioned part of this was because I did not do the pre-approval process like I normally do first) either way though the experience was A+ just like always, they took our information and saw we have been a long time customer, thanked us for that, saw the previous history with them for vehicle loans & that they had been paid off....early as well and told us they would be happy to help us with this purchase as well. They did the credit check, offered us water and whatnot and then when the score came back, the representative flipped his screen around so we could see (100% transparency) and asked us "which option would you like?" We made our decision, added the GAP insurance as we always do on a new vehicle. Chatted for a little bit as we waited for underwriting to finish up and about 45 minutes total we had a check printed in full to go back to the dealer with. NO B.S., no pushy sales people or finance people....nothing. Warranty options were presented to us as they legally have to, but there was NO PRESSURE of any kind, and at no point did we feel taken advantage of or lied to.
Again, this is not our first go around with CCU for a loan, so the customer service and experience was as pleasant as the previous times, however this was the first time we went in to a location, normally we do it all remote, which is a nice option also to accommodate our work schedules, this time my husband and I went in on our day off. Once we got our check we headed back to the dealer, and into finance to sign the state paperwork (title app etc.) and of course they started with the warranty pitch and pushing, and well I handed over the check from CCU and said no thank you to everything else. Took us all of 15 minutes in finance and another 15-20 minutes to go over the truck with the sales person, it was so NICE to not deal with that extra crap & wasting time at the dealer. Black & white, cut & dry, in & out getting the truck - thanks to CCU. We felt much more comfortable with only CCU having our information, our SSN etc....the dealership didn't know ANYTHING of the financing etc. That's how I like to keep it, my personal finances with my credit union. I highly recommend people to go this route when buying a car, they can not only get you a better rate/term, they can accommodate your personal situation - they take into account your loyalty to them as a customer and it saves you the aggravation of doing all this at the dealership & they are transparent about all of it - not once did they do something or try an sell us something without us SEEING what was going on. There was no back and fourth crap that the dealer pulls. Thank you CCU for yet another great, EASY experience/transaction and helping us get our new 2026 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD!
