I stopped at the Hawthorn Woods Community Bank today in Lake Zurich. I was going on vacation and needed to exchange $400 in 20’s for 4 $100 bills. They could not accommodate me because I was not a current customer. I explained that I was looking for a local bank but because of time constraints I couldn’t open any accounts at that time, but would be back when I was not as rushed. They were not able to exchange my bills because I was not a current customer. So I guess I will never be a current customer if that is the level of customer service. Thanks for letting me know upfront.

We moved our accounts to Hawthorne Wood Community Bank 3 months ago from a credit union we were with for 30 years. I am so happy we did, we love Rosey and her team! The service is wonderful. Everyone in the branch looks happy. It feels welcoming at a time when when so many businesses are moving away from that personal touch, they are running towards this! Love it!

I do not like the experiences I’ve had each time coming to this location I hold a business account with financial institutions but this particular branch every time I’ve done a deposit or withdrawal there it always seems to be some sort of issue of information they find in which takes allot of time do the transaction they always seem to go through my account first via because they find information but really just going through my transactions history before they either give me the cash I’ve requested or deposit my checks it really seems that I’m racially profiled because I’ve always attended these transactions in my semi truck so there’s no way they can’t remember who I am personally because I cant not part in the parking lot I have park right next to the bank where is no parking right in front of the telller window and I’ve had the same experience today this really bothers me that I hold a business account here and this how the financial institutions allow this type of business conduct

Banking services have largely become homogenous. Every bank offers the same products and services, government insurance, and -- mostly speaking -- rates. Every (significant) bank has mastered electronic banking. So one has to wonder, "do I want or need a community bank?" Well, having been an inaugural customer of Hawthorn Woods Community Bank after banking exclusively with digital banks, i.e. no brick & mortar, the 10 years prior, I've been blown away by my experience with them. Did you know that the major banking brands have publicly disclosed their desire to close branches, move to "peopleless branches," and/or to remove cash/cash handling from branches? Good luck paying your property taxes, or getting a couple thousand dollars in cash for vacation, or trying to deposit a check that the ATM rejected. (I hear you! I hear you! One doesn't need cash to go on vacation. Except maybe if you're in Turkey or Peru or any number of incredible places around the world.) Of course, Hawthorn Woods Community Bank is the antithesis of the big banks. They celebrate being part of the community and take a personal interest in each customer. To wit: I'm greeted by name when I arrive at the bank. My banker calls me from time to time suggesting services or products I might benefit from. They work overtime to ensure I'm informed of what's happening, e.g. changes in rates. While having all the modern conveniences of a digital bank, e.g. robust mobile app and capabilities, HWCB harkens back to a gentler time when we stopped and chatted with each other ... shared news of the comings and goings of the community ... and cared. Good bye Citi. Good bye Chase. Good bye BoA. I'm an HWCB client now!
