This review isn’t meant to get anyone in trouble, but to alert Bank of Hawaii management that the Hilo branch staff don’t seem to be as well-trained as one would expect from this institution. I had a simple request: I needed to come in and sign a form so I could enroll my business checking account in mobile banking. It was time sensitive as we needed the mobile credentials to pay for an insurance policy because the bank has yet to provide a debit card or give us a viable way to make purchases using the money in our account. The clerk at the front desk had no idea how to help me. Rather than asking someone or finding out, she told me that everyone was too busy and asked if I could please stand to the side and wait until someone had time to assist me, so that she could help other customers instead. She then moved me over to a closed station and started helping the next person. Mind you I’ve now been in this branch for half an hour. After waiting for even more time, I did as she suggested and left. The next day, I stopped by a Bank of Hawaii branch in Honolulu, and within three minutes the banker there had the form signed, submitted, and the issue completely resolved. The contrast between the two experiences was enormous — what one branch handled instantly, the other treated as an inconvenience they didn’t have time for. Management at the Hilo branch should be aware of this gap. This isn’t the clerk’s fault — it’s a training and leadership issue. If a manager allows a situation where an employee feels unsupported and leaves a business customer waiting over such a simple request, that reflects a failure in supervision and process. A quick, straightforward request should never result in a customer leaving dissatisfied, especially when it’s something another branch can resolve in minutes. I hope management takes this as constructive feedback and ensures the Hilo branch receives the training and support needed to meet the same standard of service as their peers elsewhere.

Bank of hawaii is not a bank to go to. They control who and where you wire monies to. They wanna control your savings and keep the poor poor! They use peoples monies and you end up working all your life to provide for the rich. If you had a lot of money you’ll have no problem. Don’t save your money there go to HawaiiUSA. You’re treated fairly and. Questions what you do with your own monies!

I am originally from Oahu and have done my business transactions with BOH for over 13 years. I have always been happy with the service — until I moved to Hilo. For some reason, this location treats their business/commercial customers VERY differently. Due to the nature of my business, I have to make deposits at this location every single day. Despite them being a newer location, their service is far below par. They consistently make their business line wait longer than the retail line. As a business owner, time is money and other BOH locations recognize this and make sure to prioritize the business line so we can hurry up and go back to making money. This was the primary reason I chose to do business with BOH. For some reason, only the Kinoole location has a different protocol. I understand some transactions take longer than others, but normally, when the business line starts to get backed up, the tellers at the retail desks will help to relieve the business line. This location DOES NOT do that. They just allow the business line to wait and wait and wait. Today I waited for a full hour before I was taken care of. 100% unacceptable. I even asked them if I should go in the other line and they said told me no. Had I just went in the other line on my own I probably would’ve been take cared of sooner. I just don’t understand why they treat the business customers differently than other locations. I will have to do business elsewhere going forward.

Very poor service. It’s almost closing time and only 2 active tellers helping customers and 6-7 others standing around and talking story. Not a good impression to make.
