- AAA'shani AckermanNov 21, 20251.0I went to the Wells Fargo branch at 1071 on Chattahoochee Ave Nov 21, 25 to cash a legitimate check that was drawn on Wells Fargo, and it turned into one of the most humiliating experiences I’ve had at a bank. While standing in front a sign that literally says “Courtesy,” I was treated with none. The teller told me she couldn’t match my check to other checks she had cashed, which made me feel like I was being accused of trying to pass a fake check. I was questioned, treated with suspicion, and eventually had the police called on me for simply trying to cash a Wells Fargo check. The check was drawn on Wells Fargo. They could’ve instantly verified it through the internal system. Which is common procedure. Not holding my check up to a computer screen, profiling my check to see if it “Matches other checks”. For my safety I recorded this interaction involving me. Which is legal and for my protection. I felt embarrassed because they had no accurate reason. I have a screenshot from the video showing this moment, and in another image, a white customer can be seen walking in and being greeted kindly while the officer was already standing in front of me. The difference in treatment was clear and deeply uncomfortable. After leaving, I went to another Wells Fargo location where the same check was cashed immediately with no issue at all. That proved the problem wasn’t the check it was how I was treated at this branch. The teller at the other bank, said she doesn’t know why they said they couldn’t verify the check, because she verified it instantly. This is my personal account of what happened. I’m sharing it to bring awareness and accountability for how I was profiled and humiliated in a place that advertises courtesy on its walls but failed to show any. It is legal to record a an interaction I was involved in to be safe, and make sure I was being treated with “courtesy “. I WAS NOT!
