I secured a doctor mortgage and he misled me on a rate lock - saying “we should really just call It a deposit” and ensuring me that this wasn’t a fee. I told him I was a first time home buyer and he said he would help guide me along the way. When the builder of our home broke our deal - Tom claimed this had “never happened before” and would just need a signed cancellation agreement to refund my nearly $10,000 in lock fees - which I provided that day. He then proceeded to tell me that I signed a disclosure stating this was non-refundable and “tough luck”. Who would ever pay that much money just to lock in a rate??? He’s incompetent or a liar.
