Despite clearly following Wells Fargo’s policy, which requires two forms of identification to cash a check, my husband was denied service without any valid justification. He provided both a valid State of Florida ID and a Florida Driver’s License. However, the individual identifying himself as the branch manager, Phillip and Lydia refused to proceed, stating it was his decision. When I reminded him of your publicly available policy requiring two forms of ID — which we provided — he dismissed it and told us to “go to another branch.” The way my husband was treated was extremely disrespectful and felt racially motivated. He is a hard working man who had just come from work and, yes, was in work clothes and a bit dirty. Instead of being treated with dignity, he was looked at suspiciously — as if the check he received for honest work had been stolen. We felt humiliated, profiled, and completely disregarded. This experience was not only unprofessional but discriminatory. No one should be judged or denied service based on the color of their skin or the nature of their job. I urge Wells Fargo to look into this matter seriously. If this is how your employees — especially management — are treating customers, it reflects very poorly on the values your institution claims to uphold.
