I am writing to express my concerns about a distressing experience I had at Ace Cash Express on Merrill Road in Jacksonville, FL. This morning, I visited the store and told the employee that I wanted to apply for another payday loan. I provided my paystub and ID without being prompted, as I am familiar with the usual procedure. However, the associate, Stacy, who I had never encountered before, began by asking, “Do I have a job or social security?” Her tone and phrasing were unexpected and unsettling, especially since I had just handed her my paystub and ID. I was taken aback by her, but answered yes. Despite my response and the documentation I provided, Stacy insisted on further verification. She asked me to log into my earnings statement system to confirm my employment, citing a new policy implemented last week. I questioned the necessity of this step, as I had already provided a recent paystub. Stacy stated that while they still required a printed statement, the new policy mandates additional verification of logging into my pay system. She stated that people claim they have jobs but don't so they have to check. I found this confusing and inconsistent with my previous experiences at this location, where I was never asked to log in or questioned about my concerns with being employed. The interaction became increasingly uncomfortable as Stacy continued to ask numerous questions, including whether I still lived at my current address. She stated she needed to call my phone to verify that it was active. I explained that I was not a new customer and expressed my discomfort with being treated as though I had a problematic history, and that I had provided her with a reason to target me. Stacy attributed her behavior to issues with other customers, but I felt that I was unfairly targeted. She turned back to her computer and started typing, then stopped and asked me for two references. I was so shocked by this interaction that I couldn’t believe I was going through this. I again asked her why she needed two references for me, and she kept giving me excuse after excuse. In that moment, I noticed that this employee was discriminating against me for no reason. It was evident that what I said did not matter and that I was getting nowhere with her. Her actions made me feel singled out and unfairly treated, leaving me with frustration and disbelief at the situation. This interaction was very frustrating and left me feeling disrespected. I felt as though my integrity was being questioned despite my long-standing relationship with the company. This experience highlighted a lack of trust and consistency in her customer service approach, which I found disappointing and unprofessional. The worst part is not what she was saying, but how she said it, which made me feel so small. Ultimately, I decided to cancel the transaction and left the store feeling hurt and disrespected. I later visited another Ace Cash Express location on University, where I was treated with professionalism and kindness. The associate there followed a straightforward process without subjecting me to unnecessary scrutiny. This experience left me questioning why I was treated so differently at the Merrill Road location. I have never encountered such treatment before, and it was deeply unsettling. I hope this feedback can help improve customer interactions and ensure a more consistent and respectful experience for all customers.
