Alina at Flagstar in Estero was great to work with. She was friendly, patient, and really took the time to help me understand everything without making me feel rushed. You can tell she actually cares about doing a good job and helping people. The whole experience was easy and pleasant because of her. I’d definitely recommend working with Alina if you’re at that branch.

Flagstar employs unethical and unnecessarily convoluted practices to make closing an account extremely difficult. Accounts cannot be closed in person at a branch. Instead, you must call customer service, request a closure quote, wait for it to arrive by mail, and then mail it back—only to be told they never received it, forcing you to repeat the process. During this time, fees accumulate on what should be a zero-balance account. The bank then refuses to close the account due to a pending fee (in my case, $20). Even after paying the fee and completing the closure process again, the account somehow resurfaced years later. This experience has been frustrating, time-consuming, and deeply unprofessional. I would strongly advise others to look elsewhere for their banking needs.

This bank is blatantly stealing my money. They received a Zelle transfer my husband sent me without any problem, but when I tried to send money back to him for household expenses, they blocked my Zelle as if I were a criminal. I called demanding a solution and the response was a complete joke: that I should use another method or go to a branch. The problem? The nearest branch is 300 miles away, about a 6-hour round trip, and even then they had the nerve to say there was nothing they could do. Today I tried to move my own money to another account of mine at a different bank—already verified and connected—and they blocked that too. The result: I cannot access my money. This is not a technical error. This is abusive retention of funds. Period. I am going to close this account, and if they tell me I have to cross half the state to recover what is mine, I will hire a lawyer and do whatever is necessary to ensure this has legal consequences. Because keeping a customer’s money and washing their hands of it is theft.
