  So...I go into Liberty to cash a check. They advise that because the check is more than the balance in my account, that they would have to deposit the funds into my account and I would have to wait until TUESDAY to access the funds! I have cashed large checks and received cash the same day in the past with no problem! The branch manager simply called then issuing bank to verify the funds were available and thats it...plain and simple! I recently cashed an insurance check at this exact same branch with NO PROBLEM! UNTIL today! The branch manager at this location all of a sudden had a problem! She had the teller call the issuing bank to verify the funds were available (it's a business check) and of course they were! So that should have been the end of discussion...right? Of course not! The teller proceeded to tell me that she was doing this as a "one time exception." She proceeded to cash the check and advised me that there would be a hold place on the account until Tuesday (even AFTER verifying the check!) Now, as a result of this, the account is now in the negative and I have automatic debits which are scheduled to come out (and will create overdraft fees.) on Monday! The only other solution to get the money same day would have been to drive 1 and 1/2 hours the nearest branch of the bank the check was drawn on just to cash it! That is absolutely insane! Shame on you Liberty Bank! This was ALL totally unnecessary since you VERIFIED the check!!!! I highly doubt that this REPUTABLE business was going to go bankrupt overnight and not honor it's checks! Like I said, it was never a problem before, until today it WAS a problem! The branch manager suggested that I go to the other branch and have that manager take care of it "since she knows me!" She tried to reach out to that manager, to verify what I was saying but she was not in today! Was that necessary? Indirectly she was calling me a liar and made me feel like she didn't believe me! Again, totally unprofessional, rude, anf embarrassing! This, is at the very least is very poor customer service! I have been an account holder with Liberty Bank for 30 years and I think its time now to switch to another bank! What has happened to good old fashioned customer service? What ever happened to simply doing your job, without all the unnecessary commentary? You NEED to do better Liberty Bank! I am forwarding this message over the Connecticut Department of Banking for them to review and address.

  Great bank. Great staff. Responsive and friendly. Been with them since the mid 80's. The guy who wrote that their fees are high, staff is slow, and ATM is broken must not be talking about this bank or at least this branch. ATM fees are refunded if you use another bank's ATM, and they have 2 ATMs at this branch so if one is busted, you can use the other one. And, as I said, the staff is top notch.

  Great bank. It's been my bank for over 25 years. The "local guide" who gave it 1 star has another branch in the center of all his other reviewed locations, and would have no need to bank in Marlborough. Possibly that has a bearing on his "review".

  Someone said slow staff, ATM problems, and high fees. He's nuts. The bank is incredible. The employees are fast and the most caring people. Always smiling and ready to help. If there are days they are slow it is because they are so busy trying to help everyone they can. Have always taken great care of myself and whom I call my grandmother and no way they are a bad bank. I recommend without any doubts!
