Established in 1825, Liberty Bank is one of the oldest and largest mutual banks in the country. As a full-service financial institution, Liberty offers consumer and commercial banking, cash management, home mortgages, business loans, insurance and investment services.
Don't normally review banks and other financial institutions, but when seeking the location of this branch I couldn't help noticing some extreme bad reviews. Which as an almost 40 year customer I found surprising. They have not been perfect over the years, but have always been friendly, understanding and effective. Several times they have reversed service charges that were my accident. My main contacts are in Hartford area but decided to try the Madison branch to save a drive. I was doing an International wire which is complicated and time consuming but had almost no wait. Asst manager was friendly and thorough. I also noticed just about ever other customer stopping in Managers office for a quick chat. Lots of reasons people can leave scathing reviews that can have varying degrees of accuracy, but I whole heartedly recommend them for all your banking needs and wants to get away from the impersonal national bank.

The worst bank ever. They improperly reversed two deposits in a 2 month period without telling me. Thus lead to them rejecting 2 checks i sent to merchants. My app should sufficient funds but since Liberty secretly reversed my deposits there weren’t sufficient funds. What kind of “bank” does that? They admitted their error the first time after I spent hours at the Madison branch. (But refused to write an apology to the merchant admitting their error). Assume the will admit this second error (a deposit of a chase bank check) but will have to spend another couple of hours in the branch, dealing with the snarky manager.

The good number of my customers use liberty as their business account. When I need to go in there, they are always very pleasant and eager to help.
