I love going to this branch. I'm always greeted as I walk in the door. The tellers know my name.

If your elder is banking with Fremont Bank, I strongly recommend pulling their funds and leaving immediately. My grandmother banked with them for over 40 years. In the last decade, she and my grandfather were scammed by three separate groups of people. The final incident was the most devastating. Fremont Bank allowed non-family members—with no legal authority over my grandparents—to facilitate a refinance on their home. This occurred while my grandfather, a Vietnam veteran suffering from advanced Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, was incapable of understanding or signing anything. He couldn’t even hold a cigarette at that point, let alone sign a legal document. The bank then allowed the same individuals to be added to my grandmother’s account, hand out her debit card to multiple people in their family, and spend freely. Once they realized they could get away with it, these neighbors-turned-criminals refinanced the house again, withdrew $100,000, and even transferred the title into their own names. This was while my grandmother had dementia and was heavily medicated for a broken femur. Fremont Bank took no action to protect her. A doctor eventually initiated an elder abuse case and brought in lawyers. I am now in the middle of a major legal battle with those who stole my grandparents’ home—property my grandfather worked his entire life to pay for—yet Fremont Bank has been nothing short of a disaster to deal with. They have allowed over $7,000 in illegal transactions, stalled on taking action, and when I—her granddaughter—flew in to handle the situation, they acted as if I was the one scamming her, rather than the one fixing this utter disaster. It took them a month to accept my Power of Attorney (POA). They bounced all of her care home checks without cause, charged us fees, and ignored my explicit instructions that these payments must be honored. Now, less than three days after my grandmother’s passing, they have shut down all her accounts and are forcing me to take time off work to drive in person to “prove” my POA again—despite having already submitted and been approved. Trying to reach them is a nightmare—30+ minute hold times, branch phone lines that no one answers, and in-person staff who are so outdated they hunt-and-peck at a keyboard and can’t even do basic math without a calculator. It’s a joke that this bank is even allowed to operate—unless its true purpose is to launder money and enable criminals to defraud the elderly. I’ve worked in banking for over a decade, and I am appalled by Fremont Bank’s negligence, lack of safeguards, and outright obstruction. No one should ever trust them with their finances—especially when it comes to protecting vulnerable elders. Update: After my review, Fremont Bank’s Walnut Creek branch went even further. The manager admitted to looking up every customer with my first name—something that is a blatant violation of other people’s privacy. Banks are not supposed to randomly search through accounts that happen to share a name. He then called me while I was at work to blame me for the issues, accuse me of being the type of person who would take advantage of my grandmother, and again claimed Fremont Bank had done nothing wrong—ever. According to him, they have “zero accountability.” I guess that’s how Walnut Creek Fremont Bank does business: harass those who call out their incompetence, lack of compliance, and willingness to allow fraud on all levels of an elder’s account. The fact that a DJ is running the branch is almost laughable—Dominique Guting was the most unprofessional, rude, and incompetent bank manager I have ever dealt with. I’ve worked in banking for over a decade, and I am appalled by Fremont Bank’s negligence, lack of safeguards, and outright obstruction. No one should ever trust them with their finances—especially when it comes to protecting vulnerable elders.
