- GLGregory LDec 2, 20251.0I walked into the Wells Fargo at 4:15 PM with a mission: deposit cash into my business account and, if possible, also deposit some coins. What followed was a 30-minute masterclass in theatrical incompetence, designed to be as helpful as a mime in a hurricane. In the queue: almost no customers, but the service pace felt like a marathoner sipping coffee. 4:15 in, 4:45 out, and during those 30 minutes I was treated to "nothing-that-helps-us-needs-your-attention" theater. I asked for help with depositing coins too. Response: "We don't do that anymore." Here: a pile of coin sleeves and a mysterious reference to a new policy, without any paperwork, map, or treasure chest to prove it. The branch manager's (Mr. Reginal Thompson) directorial note: "Branches don't have coin counters." Apparently, on-site coin counting is a premium feature the bank can't afford to offer. "Neither I nor my staff will do this at our own expense." Thanks for the generous demo of outsourced customer pain. "Ask your family during lunch or dinner to help you count and sleeves your coins." A policy tip that makes banking feel like a family tax audit. Crescendo: To maintain the dramatic arc, POLICE were called. A 30-minute intermission of bureaucratic theater, with no real resolution and zero applause. Mr. Thompson looked very embarrassed in front of his staff and other customers because Mr. Thompson had no idea that Sheriff Deps. is not taking any action unless it's a criminal case. Well, done, Mr. Thompson well done. From "hero" to ZERO! Epilogue: The very next day, another bank processed coins with courtesy and competence. The moral: service quality varies wildly; policy transparency is rarer than an unbent coin, and consistency is a distant dream.
