part 1 We run a custom skateboard business, and recently my husband received payment for a couple of boards via a money order. It was after 5 PM, and our bank was closed, but that was no issue since the money order had a watermark and was completely legitimate. To ensure everything was in order, I called Money Tree in Lemon Grove to confirm they would accept a Western Union money order. The person on the phone was incredibly friendly and assured me it would be no problem. However, when my husband arrived to cash the money order, he was met with a completely different attitude. Instead of the warm welcome I had anticipated, he was subjected to a grueling 45-minute interrogation that made him feel like a criminal trying to pull a fast one. As someone who has worked in a bank, I know that verifying a money order is a straightforward process. If there are any doubts, the staff can simply call the number on the back to check if it has been cashed or flagged. Yet, this employee took an astonishing 25 minutes just to make that call, all while bombarding my husband with a barrage of irrelevant and intrusive questions. She wanted to know what he received the money order for, and when he mentioned the custom skateboards, she proceeded to pry into the specifics of our roles in the business. It was not enough for her to see the address on the money order matched his ID; she insisted on questioning why that particular address was used. The entire situation was not only unnecessary but also humiliating for my husband, who was simply trying to conduct a legitimate transaction. To make matters worse, there was a line of customers waiting behind him, and her accusatory behavior not only embarrassed him but also potentially alienated future customers for our business. Instead of providing service, she created an uncomfortable atmosphere that reflected poorly on her establishment. It’s infuriating to think that her lack of professionalism and judgment could ruin our reputation and deter potential clients. This experience was not just a minor inconvenience; it was a glaring example of unacceptable customer service that left us feeling insulted and angry. We expect better treatment, especially when conducting legitimate business transactions, and this incident has left a sour taste in our mouths regarding Money Tree.
