- JSJoAnn SkyWatcherMay 11, 20235.0I have been a fan and user of credit unions for decades. I like it that they focus on members instead of making as much profit as possible. Living in Oakland, if I have to deal with cash at my credit union (Patelco), I don't feel safe carrying money to or from Patelco in downtown Oakland. I feel much safer dealing with cash at the Lafayette branch. I also find the branch in Lafayette with much less foot traffic than the Oakland branches. Like today, no one was in line besides me. There were people using the ATM outside of the building. It only takes me about an extra 5 or 10 more minutes driving to the branch over the hill from Oakland. The only thing I have to watch out for is rush hour traffic, and make sure that I don't get stuck in it. I like to plan on going between 11 and 2. Also, I do whatever banking I can do on my phone. I find that tellers are more friendly and helpful when they aren't dealing with long lines of customers. I like that it is true for the tellers at the Lafayette branch.

The staff here always have your best interests in mind and will always try to take care of you and will never upsell something or rush you through your transaction. Plus, they have the best coffee/drink machine!
