GILBERTO MALDONADO is an exemplary private banker and helped me re-title an account to a trust account name so that I could immediately deposit an escrow check for a large amount. He understood what I was trying to do and anticipated what form I would need to have notarized. He walked me through each signature and explained at each step what I needed to do and why. He accomplished everything in under 30 minutes in a most gentlemanly manner. Stellar Service!!
First, I had gone to the Corte Madera branch, where a teller and intermediate banker were stymied by what I was trying to do. They spent 30 minutes telling me what I could not do, why I could not do it, questioned me about what the teller from the previous month had looked like so that they could re-educate that teller about what they had done wrong, why the account should not have been set up this way to begin with, and basically acted like it was my fault for trying to do something that I'd done last month in exactly the same fashion. They did not focus on explaining to me why, instead focusing on giving me various versions of "No" and how it was not their fault but was my own fault. Frustrating. I'd hoped to make the deposit before the end of day. I asked for someone more experienced. The young teller turned frosty and accused me of being 'hostile' which was actually due to her own banking inexperience. Sigh. If she'd had more experience, she would have realized the larger picture of what I was trying to do -- make a large deposit -- and passed me on appropriately to a higher level employee to find a workable solution. Instead, she called me names, insisted on blaming and shaming me, focusing exclusively on how she was in the right and how I was in the wrong. She falsely portrayed herself as a victim, which was equal parts ridiculous, fascinating, and insulting. It was all unprofessional and distracting. She made zero suggestions how to get my deposit accomplished. Note To Self: Corte Madera's WF has an entry-level, lower-level environment which is not conducive to getting things done.
At Corte Madera, the teller, an intermediate banker, and the head private banker did not have time to print out a Certificate of Trust for me to take to an outside notary, though they all had 30 minutes to stand around lecturing me why I could not do what I was trying to do (make a deposit) and they all focused only on why none of them could help me that day. I was asked to make an appointment for the following week. So I drove to Tiburon. This is not the first time I've had trouble getting things done at Corte Madera. Maybe they are only familiar with depositing paychecks on Friday afternoons and other simpler transactions.
In contrast, Tiburon WF's staff was excellent. Both teller and private banker understood what I was trying to do. They immediately helped me re-title the account to a trust account name (which might not be a common request, but should easily be within the capabilities of any private banker, not only the head private banker). The Tiburon branch staff all knew exactly what to do and how to do it. They re-titled the account easily by immediately generating a Certificate of Trust which I got notarized next door, and then Gilberto Maldonado helped me deposit my large escrow check before the close of day. This is after I had wasted an hour at the Corte Madera WF branch hearing their knee-jerk, panicky reactions of "No, we can't do that," "How on earth did that get done last time?" "No, nobody can help you today," "No, try making an appointment for next week."
At the Tiburon WF, Gilberto Maldonado even remembered my name from previous private banking interactions. Mr. Maldonado was soft spoken, professional and polite, concise, warm, and friendly throughout. I was impressed how Mr. Maldonado anticipated what I was going to ask for and was ready in advance with helpful explanations. He printed out a Certificate of Trust in only a few minutes. I deposited a large escrow check in about 30 minutes. Most Impressive, Mr. Maldonado!
