- DDDarrellOct 5, 20181.0Don't buy the insurance! I had to leave my job to help my daughter, who is a single mother, care for my granddaughter who has a life threatening illness. Even though I qualify for EI benefits, I was told, by the guy at the insurance company, that I would need a Dr to fill out a form saying that I could not work due to stress. Not only would that make me ineligible for EI it would also be fraud. Also they do not cover the Drs cost of $240 to fill out the form and this all came to my attention 2 weeks after I had already submitted some other incorrect forms that were given to by the branch. So what was the point of me paying premiums for some garbage that doesn't even cover you when you have a good enough reason for the Canadian government to leave your job. They sure do make it sound sweet when they are selling to you though, "If for any reason are not able to work, through no fault of your own, your payments will be covered until you are able to work again." Not true! Also, what they don't tell you, my fault for not asking I guess, is the insurance adds almost 50% to your payment per month!
