  Extremely Frustrating Account Opening Experience I attempted to open a new account at First Citizens Bank, and this ended up being the only bank that has ever denied me. I currently have active accounts with multiple major banks and credit unions, and I’ve never experienced anything like this. The staff were polite in person, but the overall process was incredibly slow and inconvenient. I was asked to bring in extensive documentation to verify my identity, including hard-copy paperwork I normally never need to provide when opening an account elsewhere. After submitting everything and being told they would get back to me in a few days, I followed all their instructions — even emailing them the additional documents they requested. Despite all that, I was ultimately denied with no clear explanation. It was a disappointing and time-wasting experience considering I’ve never had issues opening accounts with any other financial institution. I hope they improve their process for future customers, because my experience was unnecessarily difficult.

  Have been using this bank and their services now for nearly 10 years. Multiple accounts and loans serviced with their business banking team. They always come through and deliver as promised. The online portal is just what we need for a small business and serves us well. On several occasions they travel to our business to ensure loans are serviced and check if everything is going okay for us. That's a great neighborly bank! Not sure why so many others take the time to write disparaging reviews. Much of what we do is automated so the use of the physical bank in person is less frequent but it is great they're here locally. Would recommend for both business banking and personal banking needs.

  If I could give less than 1 star I would. I had a Five year CD with them. There is nothing that one can do with a 5 year CD during the 5 years. This is standard. After 2 years, they went and gave the money to the state as unclaimed funds and now I have to fill out tons of forms and fight to get my money back. This is no way to do business. I checked with other banks and this should never have happened. I called them up and they just said to go file the forms. This is terrible.
