- ATAmanda ThomasSep 15, 20251.0I contacted my bank well in advance of my trip to let them know I’d be traveling out of the country. I gave them all my travel dates, and the representative assured me that everything would be fine. However, once I arrived at my destination, my card didn’t work at all. I couldn’t check into my hotel, which was incredibly stressful. When I called the bank from abroad, they told me my card had been deactivated and acted like there was nothing they could do. After escalating to a supervisor, they reactivated it and I tested it on the phone—it worked. But the very next day, it was deactivated again. Another call, another round of confusion—they said it shouldn’t have been reactivated in the first place, but then reactivated it once more and promised it wouldn’t happen again. And yet, for the third time, it was deactivated, leaving me stranded in another country with no access to funds. At that point, the attitude I got from the bank was basically, “We’re not sure how we can help you.” It was an incredibly frustrating and stressful experience.

Went in recently to replace a card and when the banker looked me in the eyes and said its activated i believed him. Went to the store, card declined, had to get out of line and call support then waste more time in line again. Not the end of the world but extremely annoying. Few months back their entire system went down and I wasn't able to cash my check without an extra charge for two days. I may have an account with SouthState but unfortunately I end up using Venmo debit most of the time because it's less inconvenient and more reliable. Not great vibes here.
