They were very unkind and cruel, hypocritical and do not act like Christians at all. They are very judgemental and close-minded. I am a single mother of 6 kids my only income being barely over $700 a month from SSI disability. They have Dr reports in my file. I am a widow from one marriage. Myself and my children are survivors of domestic violence from another and I get no child support. I have no family or friends to help. And I do my best to be self sufficient before I ever ask for help. And I do happen to be a member of this Mormon church from birth. I asked for a one time assistance to help get beds for my kids, a set of bunk beds. That would have given 2 kids each sharing a twin size bed. (the boys ages 6 and 12 on one and the girls ages 9 and 15 on the other. If the oldest ones came to visit I have a couch 😊) I let him know I had $40, maybe $50 but needed help with the rest. And I was willing to add more service acts to what I already do to help pay it back. I let him know I have some limitations, but I was sure we could find something. (Before moving here we were living in a shelter and my ex had thrown away everything we couldn't get into 4 suitcases. I have been trying to save enough for 2 years) I was told by this Bishop that my kids should just keep sleeping on the floor. Even after I let him know that 2 of my kids have been bitten by Hobo spiders with pretty bad tissue damage. I also showed him Dr notes explaining that because of at least one of my children having physical impairments proper beds, not the floor are a medical necessity. I was told "No. I should not be trying to force my monkeys onto his back" he said I was trying to use him and just living off him and the system. That I am just lazy. He also told me that my asking for help "was taking food out of the widow's of the wards mouths". I asked for help with ideas that I might not have thought of yet and he just said, "that's not my monkey. It's yours." You need to deal with it yourself. This does seem to be standard procedure since the previous Bishop said exactly the same thing mostly word for word, except for the monkey comments. (my children are multiracial, half black. I'm not sure why he chose to reference monkeys, but it was hard to not react to what seemed an unnecessary comparison) These same bishop gave 2 sets of bunk beds, mattresses and box-springs to a neighbor who didn't even ask for them last Christmas. I was shown the receipt. It said "bishop order" the totals being $900+ for the 2 bunk bed frames, and $650 for 1 mattress and box-spring. (about $2200 total) They have 5 kids who all had beds already. I don't get help for my utilities, my rent, car payment, car insurance not even food. I don't even ask. But I know, because I have either gone with people or they show receipts, that this same ward, Bishops, give all this assistance monthly to people. Families with a mother and father in the home both capable of working. Families who are not members. People who pay rent with the church money then come back with a bunch of alcohol, iPad, smartphones for all their kids etc. These are just a few examples of how the Mormon (LDS) church treats people. They are not Christians. They do not practice what they preach. And they treat many people very badly. Especially if those people are different in any way.
