  We had severe tornado warnings last night both where I live and also in Texarkana. I made sure my gal was safe and secure and called Brookdale Texarkana, where my elderly mother resides. I called Sandra Martin, the Executive Director and asked about going in and helping mom out. By the time I left my home, a tornado had touched down in New Boston and was headed towards where I live. The facility had been notified I was coming in so when I arrived they met me up front. I made sure mom was secure and understood what was going on outside. The staff who were on-site took the utmost professional care in preparations for an evacuation if one were needed. Residents were calm and comfortable, lined up in nice seating in the mail hallways away from windows and danger from wind and rain and a possible tornado touchdown outside. I sat with my mom the whole time as she has Alzheimer’s and explained the severity of what was going on so she wouldn’t be scared or confused. The staff knew we were in moms room and checked in on us from time to times and each time I’d ask how things were. We were away from her single window and had easy access to evacuate if necessary. Again, I can’t stress enough how appreciative of the staff there for wing prepared and keeping things calm and normal, given the event outside. They should all be commended by Brookdale Corporate for this. Sandra Martin is proud of her staff and I let her know today how I felt about it. The staff had an evacuation plan in place in case we had to leave the facility! I left after the main severity of a tornado had passed and came home. Thank you Brookdale for keeping your residents safe and secure. This was a great test for all of us in preparedness and being responsible for others! Sincerely- Michael Allex SE, IPI

  I have been in similar places but Brookdale is by far the best. All the staff are willing to do what they can to make you comfortable & to do what they can to make you feel welcome. Also, they bring in entertainment & Bible studies. Every thing I ask has been accomplished & the food is great. All the residents are friendly & ready to welcome you.

  Staff is caring, compassionate and well trained. They treat my aunt as if she were THEIR aunt.

  Mom just loves it here. So much to do. Wonderful staff. Good food. She feels safe and cared for.
