II was looking for a better place for my father and I came across Brookdale Harrisburg. Both my aunts were already living there so to my father that was a win win. Now they all can be living in the same place. . I met with Alex who guided me through the entire process. He was extremely kind and understanding to me and my father. He made sure my father was comfortable and happy with the room he had for him. Alex went above and beyond to ensure my dad was happy.. Besides that the staff were very caring towards my dad’s needs. Courtney was very helpful ensuring that my dad’s needs were taken care of. Tina and Michelle were my dad’s favorites. They were so kind and understanding even during the tough times with my dad. Tina and Michelle went above and beyond to make sure my father was comfortable in his last days. I am grateful for all of you and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. ❤️‍🩹 Robert Morton’s family.❤️‍🩹

Both our parents are living at Brookdale (Mom for a year now in Memory Care, Dad in assisted living). The staff is so friendly and very caring of the residents. Mable, the director of Clarebridge is great and tries to get the residents out for lunches, field trips, etc... to make them feel like they are more at home and a part of the community.

Brookdale Harrisburg is a superb community for senior and memory care. We knew the moment we first visited that this was the place for Mom. We pretty much cancelled appointments with other memory care communities after our first meeting. The common area is very lovely and inviting. There’s a sense of peace and serenity in the air as you enter. It’s beautifully decorated for the holidays, and music plays gently in the background to give everyone who visits the feeling of “coming home.” The rooms are very spacious and cozy. (Mom’s overlooks the courtyard.) We had the opportunity to bring in Mom’s furniture and decorate her room before she moved in so that she felt right at home when she arrived. The people at Brookdale are wonderful. Smiles everywhere, all the time. Everyone there has treated us like family from the start. Everyone knows who we are (even if we haven’t met before). Everyone knows Mom (and has a funny story about her). We’re all on a first-name basis. The process was very smooth. Mom needed memory care relatively quickly, and the staff accommodated in every way possible. The staff members are very well-trained, loving, and very welcoming. The medical folks are on top of every detail. There are well-planned and well-organized activities for Mom all the time. All the caregivers are extremely attentive to Mom’s day-to-day needs. Our situation is a little more challenging given that Mom can only speak Greek and not much English anymore, yet everyone has spent hours with us during meetings, over the phone, or through emails to get to know Mom better, learn where she’s from, what she’s like, what she likes and dislikes, how to best communicate with her (they even learned Greek words!), and how to provide the best possible care to her. When we finally brought Mom to move in, the staff greeted her at the entrance with cheers and hugs. The ladies in the common area playing Bingo gave her a round of applause. Made Mom feel like the Queen! After that she strolled around the community as though she had lived there for years, and we spent the next few hours hanging out with all the lovely people there. I highly recommend Brookdale for your loved ones.

From the very first phone when I called in a moment of true unexpected family crisis to the unfortunate happenstance where we no longer needed their services, I must share with you that I have never ever been treated with so much genuine compassion, care and concern as I have by Brookdale Harrisburg under their great leader Excutive Director Patty Jacobs. Death and dying from dementia is not easy. There’s no instruction book issued when the diagnosis comes. This is my father. My hero. My role model. But the closest thing I have found to this instruction book was this care team at Brookdale. Mind you, I called them New Year’s Eve in the mid morning in haste. Their intake person Precisilla Mitchell told me to come right over. I was overwhelmed by the suddenness of this all and trying to compartmentalize emotion to get to action: settled and done so I could sprint off to the next of a thousand things I had to do. She aided me through all of the necessities to get him placed ASAP due to his massive change in condition. We had the contract signed and bed secured thanks to Diana in the business department, Precilla and Patty very, very quickly. They were able to send their Intake nurse of their really amazing memory care unit Stacy to assess and interview my mother (and as much as possible my dad) that very early afternoon. We took a tour and had great positive contact with the staff including several of the nurses. The residents were all very clean and bright. Unlike my stereotypical thought of a “nursing home” was not a “place of death” but of life. Music. Art. Smiles on the residents and staff. Very very clean. It smelled like any other house that would be in my neighborhood: normal. They gave us crucial insight into how to best balance my father’s right to know, his mental state and how to avoid a potentially ugly situation when the change of his address was imminent. We were granted unfettered access to his room to set it up in advance to meet his comfort and his taste. The staff had clearly done their homework on my dad based upon the information they got during the intake process plus a great book of life that they supplied and we filled out. The staff and several of the nurses at the memory care unit knew a lot of details about him before he even moved in. The private room was quite big with a no barrier (walk in shower), 2 closets with plenty of space for a King sized bed, furniture like a 5 drawer dresser, a book shelf and a large TV with TV stand and even a cozy Lazy Boy chair. It was safe. It was secure to prevent wandering. This review is long. And I can go on and on and on. I don’t write reviews generally. It’s not my way. Plus I reserve reviews for services that are beyond belief. I especially don’t write long reviews. But if I make this place sound too good to be true, it kinda is. Doing business and trusting them with my one and only dad was the smartest and best decision we have made during this dying process. So I know you want to do due diligence and read and Google as much as possible, but I’m telling you now (and you can thank me later) stop. Use your valuable time in another fruitful direction. Stop searching because you must call them right now. You will not be disappointed.
