The staff are very friendly and some do care about the precious cargo of elderly people who are living there and some are there just for a job.

Understand what it is... CHOOSE WISELY. There aren't many people who WANT to put their loved ones in a facility, so at first glance, an Assisted Living facility seems like the perfect solution. It's not a full Nursing Home, and it seems like a nice place.
The key word here is SEEMS. Assisted Living is NOT for sick people... especially those with dementia. Yes, it's cheaper and it LOOKS really pretty, but LOOK CLOSELY! In most cases, the staff is not equipped to deal with advanced age-related issues. They are typically understaffed and by the time you add up the "fees" they charge to manage your loved one's advanced health issues (IF they do at all), you could have paid for a facility that includes caring for advanced needs.
Taking my loved one out of this facility was the BEST decision I ever made. Between over-medicating (causing other health issues) my loved one and allowing them to sit in their own waste for hours (despite me offering to pay extra for their help), ignoring their requests for help, etc. This place was a NIGHTMARE. Had I not been "hands on", I'm sure my loved one would have suffered more.
Isn't the purpose of placing a loved one in a facility to help ease the burden of caregiving? The entire time my loved one was at Brookdale, I was stressed CONSTANTLY--feeling like I had to check behind them to make sure things were done. I took on most of the responsibility myself because the staff couldn't get it done. DON'T BE FOOLED!!!
If you need to spend money to find a place for your loved one, make sure you get what you pay for and WATCH CLOSELY!!! Visit often and randomly. This population is sensitive! Advocate for them and don't allow them to be mistreated by corporations... BEWARE!!!

I had the same thing happen as the other reviewer. They said my mother owed thousands of dollars because they had not filed the paperwork with Medicare and Medicaid. I have yet to resolve the issue. They tell me they can't talk to me about it. My mother's roommate had the same problem. I also had problems with the way my mother was treated her. I walked in on the RA's twice, who had put my mother on the toilet with her clothes on. They told me she would eventually shimmy her pants down. My mother had to leave this place because she needed a lift to go to the bathroom and get out of bed and they didn't have a lift because they were a assisted living. The place she is at now treats her so much better. My mother met a lot of friends here and it is a very nice facility visually. They will lie to you about you bill. Paula was the one who told me the bill would be taken care of and it never was. They lie.
