Presbyterian Homes & Services is pleased to continue to serve the Highland Park neighborhood in Saint Paul at Marvella, our newly named community within the robust development at Highland Bridge (former Ford Motor Company location). The future housing options for seniors will span a variety of lifestyle options—independent living, assisted living and memory care—allowing residents to stay within their neighborhood of choice while co-mingling with diverse generations from the greater community. Located in an amenity-rich section of the Highland Bridge development, residents will be just steps away from restaurants, grocery stores and greenspace.
Marvella is a sleek and welcoming retirement community that my grandparents live in. It well thought out and conveniently located near the highland park shops including the new lunds and byerleys.
There are a lot of options for activities throughout the day. There are pickle ball and basketball courts nearby as well.
The staff are very friendly, especially at the front desk. There is a ping pong table and a grand piano available for use as long as a swimming pool and spa.
Marvella is discrete, elite and very animal friendly. My grandparents are very happy with the building and community.

My mother-in-law was a resident at Marvella for over a year at $10,000 a month. Unfortunately, Marvella decided that she was too high maintenance due to her Alzheimer's and kicked her out.
The lesson here is that Marvella charges premier prices but only offers bargain basement services.

Marvella negligently withheld my mom’s pain medication for the first two weeks she lived in memory care. My mom has spondylitis which has caused severe pain for over 30 years. She has been taking 3 to 4 OxyContin pills per day for many years. After moving her into Marvella, my mom repeatedly told me she wasn’t getting any pain meds. Because she has dementia and I assumed the Marvella nursing staff were educated in dispensing prescribed medications, I believed my mom had forgotten she received her meds. But, it was obvious her pain was becoming unbearable, so I asked one of the PCAs when mom was due for her next pill. I was then informed my mom was receiving Tylenol and nothing else. I asked to speak to the head nurse who defiantly told me my mother never specifically asked for oxycontin so she was not given the Oxy. She told me “prn” means “as needed” which means the patient must ask for it. But my mom was writhing and crying in pain. Doesn’t that mean she needs it? The nurse said my mom must ask for the medication specifically. If not, she will be given Tylenol only. It is obscenely cruel to require memory care patients to ask for their meds by name. My mom had already lost much of her ability to communicate. The loss of verbal skills is an eventuality of most (or all) types of dementia. Most people with no medical training, but a bit of common sense would know that “as needed” means the medication is no longer needed if the pain is gone. On the outside Marvella is lovely, at it’s core it is dark, empty, and cold as ice.

The staff at Marvella is amazing and always kind - it's all my mom talks about and as her primary I've had the same experience. From Nicole Stenstrom their Housing Coordinator to Melissa Lawrence the RN Clinical Administrator to Julie Olson, RN to Connor Jensen the Resident Services Director and all of the support staff I have yet to experience anyone that didn't go above and beyond. What a blessing.
